What happens if I update Debian Squeeze from Lenny's source.list?

Hi,

What happens if I update Debian Squeeze from Lenny's source.list?

A step by step manual is written on Lenny, and if I change lenny to squeeze things seem to not work.

When I update the squeeze from the original source.list and then change to the source.list that manual uses things are working.

But if I were to start squeeze with lenny's source.list I am getting error while trying to do this:

apt-get install wget mc zip unzip bzip2 ntp ntpdate lsb-release

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
bzip2 : Depends: libbz2-1.0 (= 1.0.5-1+lenny1) but 1.0.5-6 is to be installed
E: Broken packages

What is causing this?

You shouldn't mix squeeze and lenny, use one or the other. If I'm reading your post correctly, you installed squeeze and then changed your sources file to show lenny repos, is that right? That conflict is likely causing the broken packages error you are getting. Post you sources.list file so we can see what you are working with. What manual are you following? What are you trying to do? There are plenty of how to's available for squeeze, try using one of those.

I am setting up ispCP Omega 1.0.7 on Squeeze. and got it working via official documentation and via a youtube video too.

But if I update the Squeeze with Lenny sources before doing anything then I am getting that broken package error.

Well I din;t know it could cause problems like this.

Thanks tons!

The way you have put this is so confusing. Basically you cannot update to Squeeze using Lenny references in the source.list but you can update to Squeeze by changing all references that say Lenny to Squeeze. It's not the best way to do things but it is one way. Another is use Update Manager, if Debian works the same way as Ubuntu, and let it do a dist upgrade meaning it will upgrade from Lenny to Squeeze for you.

Thanks! I got a better understanding of source.list usage...
