Hello first post here i joined Linux-questions to get my hands on a old copy of backbox 4.0 or less i ran that distro back in high-school for fun and trolling i miss it. I'm looking to re-setup the system i had back then for nostalgia and i found it damn useful. I cannot find a download link anywhere on the web all the links are broken i can get 4.1 and up but not 4.0 and down why is it so hard to find? "puts on tinfoil hat" every link is broken not just on linux-questions but everywhere, who has stricken this iso from the web? or am i missing something? thank you for reading.
I just checked torrents here: https://backbox.oversecurity.net/downloads/, versions 4.0 (both i386 and amd64) and 3.13 (i386), with no success.
Why don't you contact developers on backbox.org?
i have just sent a message to the developers on backbox.org will keep you posted,I just find it odd that every link for 4.0 and below are broken not just on: https://backbox.oversecurity.net/downloads/, but everywhere i look ,every alternative site i find if anyone finds a working link to 4.0 and below I'd be very great-full
Because it's 6 years out of date and even the ubuntu it was based on (14.04) is already EOL, thus not maintained. Most distributions remove TOO old releases from their sites and mirrors normally follow that policy.
Well that sucks but at least i have an answer and a Linux-questions account. Can't help but feel like the iso is somewhere on the web, i realized it was outdated but for my purposes that didn't matter.I'm going to wait a little longer in hopes someone drops a privet link or something then give up and mark this thread as solved. Thanks to all who posted for a Newbie.
Why not try a somewhat newer version? You said you could find 4.1 images.
that's probably whats going to happen. short answer nostalgia 4.1 changed the layout and some tools really wanted 4.0 just because Thats what i had back then and i wanted to check out even earlier versions for fun. I should take this time to mention posting here was the last ditch effort to find this .iso I'v spent alot of time looking for it.
The harsh truth (as an old college friend of mine was fond of saying) is that there have been many short-lived distros based on Ubuntu that have come and gone, especially during the days of remastersys, that flared briefly upon the horizon, only to fade into oblivion, leaving behind a lingering memory, as a sounding brass or a clanging cymbal.
Ohh, it's still alive, they just do not have that very old release available anymore.
The current one is called BackBox Linux 6, which was released on 11.06.2019
We had some problem like that when we used "BackTrack" Linux, a distro a bit like that, for some special purposes from a stick, but they radically changed the system and it's now called Kali Linux.
But as our code was written for those older releases I still got a copy of both BackTrack 2 and 3 around (although I haven't been needing it for the last several years).
BTW: BT2 is from 2007, BT3 a year later.
Remastersys was a one person operation and it got to be too much for him to maintain. Similar software can still be found, mostly for Ubuntus such as PinGuy Builder and Systemback.

Any chance i can score a copy of backtrack 2&3 from you? I had backtrack around the same time i found Backbox and switched I'd like to add those iso's to my personal archive. really kicking myself i didn't back up Backbox when i had the chance i remember thinking "oh i can always get a fresh download if i need it".

Yeah, send me your E-mail addres to (removed) and I'll "WeTransfer" it to you (WeTransfer needs both E-mail addresses of sender as well as receiver).
Note: this is a backup of a bootable (vfat formatted) USB stick we used to get into any Linux system at the university, so they're not the original install files, they are unpacked into a BackTrack tree (with BOOT is BT2, BT3 of course is BackTrack 3, as subdirs).
The stick is made bootable through either the bootinst.bat (from Windows) or bootinst.sh (when you're currently running some sort of Linux) scripts in the BOOT directory.
Look into those for details.
