what goes into what??

I have mandrake 10.1 and have made the following partitions -
/, swap, boot, home, usr, opt, tmp. so where do I install various add on softwares like acrobat, games, editors, linux tools, media players, browser etc ?

Programs traditional go into /usr , /usr/local., or /opt ... it's your option. That is usaully only an option if you compile from source yourself. If you download the binares, the choose has been made for you already.
