what doesnt it mean??

i saw in runlevel 3, /etc/rc.d3, there are some of link files, which linked to /etc/rc.d/init.d/. i saw S85*** and K85*** file. i know one is for start service and one is for stop service script. now, my question is what does "85" mean? some of them are "15", and bla bla.....how it is derived? how is it named? pls advise. thanks.

I believe the numbers are relative. That is to say that something labelled S15 will be run before something labelled S16. I would thing that those things labelled with the same number would be run in alphabetical order, so S15A would run before S15B, and so on. The K numbers should work in the same way.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.
