What does it take to access winxp computer on home network?

I'm running ubuntu 9.1 and want to access another computer on my home network. That particular computer is running XP pro. I set up the user account on the windows machine with admin rights, did the remote user yada yada yada...

still can't access the folders. i know this is vague but whatever you can do with the above information to point me in the right direction would be awesome.

thanks in advance.

As I was posting I was searching and searching. Samba seems to be the answer but upon a quick skimming of the docs I need to have a server going.. The home network is a workgroup as you all probably have guessed.

Will this be a problem?

You won't need a server going.

Depending on the DE you're using you should be able to just
access it with an smb:// or cifs:// notation. You *will* need
a valid smb.conf , though.

Hi,

'SMB-HOWTO' should aid in the use. Or look at 'Quick and dirty Samba setup' which is a Slackware article but applicable.

The above links and others can be found at 'Slackware-Links'. More than just SlackwareŽ links!
