If I had such a nice modern system I'd try a bunch of the most common distros just to see what I liked. Even try stuff like Clear Linux OS too.

Distrowatch has a somewhat accurate list of distro's to peek at.

I'm hoggish.

I too have a 4 years hold HP which a bored rich friend gave me, a core i5 4210U with 8GB ram I keep as reserve, but when Conky says that the freshly started system on idle has a consumpution greater than 185MB to me is a waste of resources and I look for something thrifty.

Last weekend I installed Salix on it cause it's a pain with other distro make the onboard Broadcom BCM43142 wireless chip working and it achieves the resources saving mandatory for me.
