what distro is suitable for Compaq Presario CQ50-107NR Notebook with AMD Athlon Dual-core QL60 1.90 GHz 2.0 Gb Memory, 32-bit
What Linux distro is suitable for Compaq Presario CQ50-107NR Notebook with AMD Athlon Dual-core QL60 1.90 GHz? Memory is 2.0 Gb, It's a 32-bit machine.
My particular concern is the speed of the Athlon processor chip. I was thinking of running Lubuntu 16.10 from a USB stick. But I don't understand the posted chip-speed requirements. They say "The minimum specification for CPU is Pentium 4 or Pentium M or AMD K8. Older processors are too slow and the AMD K7 has problems with Flash video." How do I know my chip meets that requirement? Thanks |
Run a live session run. Then you will have personal experience on what is best for you. I see no problem with trying lubuntu in a live USB run,

Is my chip too lame?

Hi.
Have you run GNU\Linux long enough to get a favorite? Mine is one many are built from Debian (particularly Sid https://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/u...ding-firmware/ muchness:D) but most are "free" to try eg: https://distrowatch.com/search.php?o...&status=Active ...have fun! :hattip: |

If you're new... starting with anything that ends in *buntu is pretty smart, IMO. Also, as mentioned... you have a 64bit CPU. Honestly though, since you're not running more than 3.5gigs of RAM.. It probably won't make much difference w/ that cpu whether you run 32 or 64bit.
Lubuntu should run pretty well on that machine. |

You better live long enough to do a md5sum check of your downloaded Lubuntu iso to keep from feeling newbie grief later on. Because something could have gone wrong during the download process. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=33QT7xohUvI https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lu...on/CheckISO_CD Oh yeah: If needing a Windows md5sum checker.
