What distro is right for me?
 

I want to install linux on this computer, but have had issues with RedHat/Fedora. So what distro would be right for me? All I really want to use it for is to be hosting a website (server), and programming. I don't need something huge, but a GUI would be nice.

Fedora Core took about 15 hours to install via CD and it didn't even work, so I'm not doing that again.

Here is the information for the CPU:
RAM: 128mb
Speed: 467Mhz
Disk space: 20gigs

But it recommended SUSE, which has requirements beyond what the CPU has.

I always suggest Slackware. It installs quick, runs smooth and comes with Fluxbox. I personually run Slackware for my personal website and email server and have had no issues with it. I also installed it at work to run a server that displays a Power Point presentaion for employees to view company news.

The install is test based (actually ncurses) and does require you to know how to use fdisk or cfdisk. But it is easy to follow and will get you running in under 30 minutes. There is a link in the Slackware forum that shows you step by step how to install Slackware (has pictures).

I have used RH, Fedora, Suse, Ubuntu, Debian, Vector, and other distros. Bu I have never found any to be as good as Slackware.

http://iso.linuxquestions.org/ - better link for isos :) For your hardware I would suggest Slackware/Debian/Gentoo/Puppy Linux/Damn Small Linux. The first 3 will take a little more reading than the last 2.

debian is really easy to install I think I'm a real newbie but could install debian smoothly so I say go for it

Just get disk 1. The link you posted is to bittorrent files. If you just want an iso to download go to http://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/3.1_r1/i386/iso-cd/

Yes I know. I prefer using BitTorrent. The files are (a lot) less likely to become corrupt.

I'm installing Slackware now.
