what config file to change?

What file do I need to change to stop auto login
I'm using from safe mode to boot now

Could you provide quite a bit more information, such as "auto-login to what?" (meaning KDE, Gnome, the CLI, the BIOS, Grub/Lilo?), as well as your distribution, version, and what you mean by 'safe mode'?

Mandriva 2008 spring ( The free Download version) It was auto login to KDE but I thought I'd try XDM that's when it stopped working. At the GRUB OS login it has a choice for mandriva failsafe mode it brings you to command prompt.

Dell Inspiron 11oo 2.2ghz pent4

Intel 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV Graphics controller
