What causes these little small graphic quirks to appear in my terminal?

When I highlight over them and click to unhighlight, they go away. How can I prevent them from coming on? They are getting really annoying and sometimes it gets pretty bad. What's really wierd is that I have another user account in the same OS and that never happens. It only happens on this account for some reason.

Do you have desktop effects (transparency, etc) enabled?

I've seen similar things in the past with konsole (pretty buggy app) which is the same you are using, but I can't remember now what caused them.
