what Career after shell scripting
Is there any help after learning shell scripting to find a job in Linux based companies. How many chances
|
There's a lot more than just shell scripting to getting a job in Linux.
To start with, what sort of job do you want eg programming, DBA, Network Engineer, SysAdmin etc ...? |
Do you have any past experience in working on Linux/Unix?
You cannot learn/implement shell scripts until you've knowledge of at least basics of Linux/Unix. Shell scripts are used to automate your day to day jobs and to make lengthy and complicated work easy. To my understanding and experience, don't go with simple shell scripting. But choose some additional option with it, like Unix Systems Administration, or Programming in Perl or Python, so you can get some good opportunities. I have never seen a company hiring a person having knowledge of shell scripting only, but they always look for people having knowledge of other aspects too. Good luck! |
You can go in programming field also with the help of shell scripting but as shivaa said that it is better to have good knowledge of Unix/Linux system administration and learn some more languages like he said perl, python, etc.. That would be an advantage for you.

Or you could get work in some scientific or business field that also involves some computing. After a few years that may provide opportunity for a change to full time IT work if that's what you want.

And keep in mind that everyone is a freshar at the beginning, and everyone gets a chance at right time. So keep your skill polished, keep practicing, keep learning. There are many job consulting firms and you can get in touch with them, as well as various job portals are available online, so you can apply for jobs online. |
If your RHCE is current it should have included some shell scripting so you would already have knowledge of using tools such as sed, awk, grep, egrep, and things like variables, arguments, cases, if statements etc..
You could try doing some freelance work by advertising on forums or places like odesk to get some references + experience which will help you get into a job |
