What can I do when I get only "grub>" at booting time?
Hi guys, I was trying to install Ubuntu on my PC which I have WinXP and Fedora. Grub on fedora used to boot my system. I was trying to install Ubuntu over fedora but I got very lost with the Ubuntu installation that I formatted the entire fedora partition. I did not finish the Ubuntu installation and now when I try to boot my system this is what I get:
grub> Is there a command to boot this or should I just try to install Ubuntu again. I was getting a message saying that "Mirror could not be found" I think it means that I needed to be connected to the Internet. Help please |

Then reinstall the distro(s) of your choice. But rather than installing a new GRUB with each distro, just modify /boot/grub/menu.lst as needed. |
RAdams I have tried with the WinXP CD but it is not booting, I don't know why, the CD is fine I tested it in another PC. When I insert the WinXP CD my says "Checking for hardware dependencies" as usual but then I get nothing, black screen. Can I just try to install linux again so I can boot both OS once Linux is installed?

what's happening is that Grub is looking for the menu.lst, and can't find it.
If you knew your grub menu entry, yu could load it manually, otherwise i would reinstall. Are you sure that Win CD is ok? How long did you let it go? Sometimes it takes a long time to load. |
The CD is good I just tested it in another machine today. I did let it run for about 20min. and nothing. So should I just reinstall Linux? I don't want to lose my Win partition. Can I do the "fixmbr" if I create a boot disk in a Windows machine?
Thanks |

Will try again tonight to see what happens!!
Thanks |
Got the installation running! I just continued installing ubuntu and I found an option that enables you to detect the .iso in your hard drive and run it from there. This installation is very confusing, Ubuntu team please lets make an installation that is sequential and maybe with an GUI for newbies like me. I had to go back to the menu and guess what choice to use.
Thanks!!! |
