I need to know what are the major distros of LINUX that other distros are based on. What I mean is ,where is Redhat based on or SLackware based on. For example,I believe ubuntu is based on debian.
Redhat is not based on another distro. Redhat Enterprise Linux though is based on technologies in Fedora Core, but Fedora Core was initially based on Redhat 9. Mandriva is a fork of Redhat (meaning that its no longer compatible with Redhat/Fedora), Suse was initially based on Slackware. Slackware was initially based on an old distro called SLS. I am not sure if Debian was based on any of the old distros.
