What are rpm2cpio and rpmdb-redhat


What are "rpm2cpio" and "rpmdb-redhat". What can you do with these things? Details in the Inertnet doesn't Make much scence. I tried this "rpm2cpio somePackageName " command. Then it started displaying some funy characters each time when I type something only in that comsole. Why?
