Can anybody tell me what is the real difference of GRUB and LILO? What its advantage? Why distro X prefer GRUB or LILO?

I prefer GRUB because changing the settings is usually just a matter of editing the file menu.lst. With LILO each time a change is made it has to be re-insalled to MBR and I prefer to leave MBR well alone.

Is any distro other than slackware still defaulting to LILO?

LILO = LInux LOader
This came before GRUB, and is still used by Slackware---I have not seen it in any other distros.

GRUB is preferable---if only because there are more people who know how to troubleshoot it.
