Wget Help

Hi im new to linux and basically im trying ot use wget. is there a way to use wget to download a file in a directory that you are not currently in? thanks.

for instance if im in /main and i wanted to put the file in /upone while still in /main....

wget -P dirname http://whatever
"man wget" for options.
