Western digital drivers
 

I have a Western digital WDC WD800JD series and I am currently trying to install
Red hat 9 on it and it says it cannot find any hard drives and gives me a list of drivers to choose from does anyone know which one I should choose?

I think you only need drivers for the interface, so standard IDe or SATA.

If the drive is newish then i would just not bother with RH 9, it's old, won't include alot of more modern software/fixes/DRIVERS

Yes RedHat 9 is essentially obsolete. Why are you trying to install it on a new system? You should use something newer, like Fedora Core if you like the RedHat stuff, or some other distro.

Well I have dial up and when I went to a computer store I saw they had red hat (it was the newest they had) I convinced my mom it buy it for me.
But other then that I want it to work so when it gives a list of drivers to choose from which one should I choose?

Without knowing the list, how can we tell you? :)

https://shipit.ubuntu.com/ - they ship you free ubuntu (based on Debian) CD's, they take a while but it's a much more up to date distro.

I suggest get a PATA to SATA converter or just get a PATA hard drive instead. Installing Linux on a SATA drive is tricky. Really any Linux distribution that you choose will have problems installing it self on a SATA drive. Also motherboards (usually) comes with Silicon Image SATA controllers, so I recommend using the SATA drive just for Windows and use a PATA hard drive for Linux. Silicon Image controllers does corrupt data in Linux, so I recommend setting as read-only when mounting the SATA drive.
