Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

Hi all i tryed linux in the past and got discuraged, but i want to do it again and make it happen. i currently run a halflife server on windows[i know] i want to make this linux server work, because they are much more relibaly/faster and i want one lol can anyone help me out here pulling my hair out lol thank ya rocker :>
sorry what im lookin to do is transform my windows server into a full blown linux halflife server.linux is a new steppin stone for me /just lookin for the dos/donts on runnin linux i have tons of skills in windows but a neewbie in linux. any advice lol thank you
It appears as if you might need to do some "research" to narrow down what you need and what you want to do.
I suggest google and maybe searching for something like "setting up a half life linux server".
Read some sites, determine what you think is the best distro for the job or at least what distro you want to use and then go from there.
If you are expecting someone one to post the numbered steps to setting up a linux server and installing the half life software, you might be waiting a while.
Of course I'm new to the forums so you might get lucky, but I suspect you will need to do some research and come back. You have a better chance of getting an answer to a specific question, as opposed to a entire walk through on how to setup what you want.
THANK YOU AND REALLY THANK YOU BUT I DONT KNOW IF THIS IS A GOOD THING FOR ME,SEEMS LIKE ALOT OF TIME/EFFORT TO DO THIS, WELL I GUESS ILL JUST LEAVE UP MY WINDOWS SERVER IT DOES RUN GOOD JUST WANTED SOMETHING BETTER THANX ROCKER:>
