wep browser problem or not ?
 

hi all

i got my laptop so i can look at stocks and i was ok on winddows

but on linux ?? it's not working it's not updating the new price's ??

i have tryed ubuntu 5.10, suse 10, xanderox 3.0 knoppex (lots) and mepis (lots) but using mepis 3.4.3 now

please have a look @ the site :

when the market Status is open the prices shoud move up and down but for me i have to refresh

the market is open fron 10 t0 1 united arab emirets time.

Well market says closed for me, so doesn't look like it'll update for a while.

What browser were you using on windows? could be IE? and maybe the site uses some specific function (read ActiveX junk) if that's the case you could install wine and IE (why bother?) or look for a firefox extension that auto refreshes the page?

and ?? no active x for fire fox ? or anything like it ?

i have to run IE ?

if i refresh it takes time when i'm on the laptop coz i'm on 56k modem but in IE the price is flashing the change before u can even see it ?

no, no activeX for firefox, which isn't bad considering it's a major entry point for spyware and shite on a windows system.

That's the problem with building sites for IE, especially nowadays, not everyone wants to use it.

If you do alot of trade with them, and pass alot of money through it, you might be able to get them to re-build their site properly :)

Of course this is a guess to the problem but if you used IE before, i imagine that's it.

let's say i use IE using wine ?

would it work ??

i dont think thay will de anything to the site coz thay get around 1 to 4 Bil???ion a day :tisk:

It doesn't look like ActiveX, actually. Seems that all their magic is done with JavaScript.

It depends what the problem is - best way is to try it and find out.

What browsers have you tried it with? You haven't provided this very important information yet. Note that it's very very unlikely to be a distro-specific thing; at least, if it works in one distro there'll be a way to get it working in all the others.

If you're using Firefox, you may be interested in the auto-refresh plugin, which lets you tell Fx to refresh the page every certain number of seconds/minutes.

Two things:
On the rare occassion that a site did not work with Firefox, they fixed it when I reported the problem.
You can set up many browsers to report that they are something else--it's called "user agent".

Pixellany you are right . . it did not work before with fire fox


Dtsazza i use fire fox opera and Konqueror . . . Thats all coz i dont know if there are otheres around as good for linux.

Oh on my suse i downloaded all the java stuff that i could ever find to make it work (i was testing) and guess what . . . . . it did not WORK ?? . . . . . why on widows but not on linux ??

Since the site your looking at was built using ASP.NET, it would be safe to assume that it was built using MS Visual Studio 7. If that is the case, it is also safe to assume that it has been built to be IE specific and will not work properly using any other browser. Even if you have that browser identify itself as IE (something Opera is particularly good at).

I find this trend disturbing in financial management sites. My bank's online banking and electronic checking services, for instance, are IE specific. I have complained, but its like spitting into the wind.

I'm not sure if this will help with the ActiveX issue, but I found these instructions for getting IE running in Wine:
