Weird...Riva TNT2 Black Screen Nvidia Drivers...

I'm running MKD9.2 on a P3 500 with a Riva TNT2 32mb AGP card. Everything seemed to work fine during the install but when it boots straight to X the screen goes black and I cannot do anything. The work around I have found is to boot to failsafe mode and then exit failsafe. This then launches X with no issues.

I tried installing the latest NVidia drivers and following their instructions to a T and everything went as planned and it uses the new drivers, but I can still only get it to launch X after I've booted to failsafe and exited. Here's the pertinent portions of my XF86Config-4 file. Any help would be apreciated.

Ok, this is gonna sound dumb, but when I boot up and allow it to try and start X it'll fail, then I manually reboot it cause I can't do anything else, and entersafe mode. How then do I save the contents of the current XFree86.log file from being overwritten once I exit safemode to have it correctly initialize X?

Should I just do an mv of the log? Will X create a new log if I do so? TIA
