Weird bug
 

Ive got Debian 2.6.32 . Applications closing on their own from time to time, sometimes i can be dropped into login screen. I believe once it even rebooted the pc. I thought it might have something to do with automatic updates, turned them off but it keeps happening. Im using Gnome btw. And if you dont mind 2nd question, is it somehow possible(obviously not) to make Remmina act like radmin, not as Rdesktop only. To switch between real connection to the user and login connection through domain admin(talking about RDP). Maybe suggest some utility u have used on ur nix for that purpose(yes i can google, just people with huge experience opinion may be worth much more).

Oh yea, ive rushed through the whole internet trying to get smthg RemoteAdmin-like. I really need an utility which doesnt require rclient to be preinstalled on remote machine. And lets say DameWare thing doesnt even install properly through wine, and it was probably my best hope. So really expecting some feedback on 2nd part of my question, now in doubt if thats possible yet at all. Had to install DWRDC on DC to access remote wstations somehow at least.

I am assuming you mean Debian with the 2.6.32 kernel and not Debian v. 2, which is quite old.

The first thing I would do, because it's easy and because over-heating is often associated unexpected shutdowns and erratic behavior, is check the cooling.

I'd vacuum out all the vents or blow them out with compressed air and make sure I can feel drafts from all the fans.

On a desktop, I'd open the case and clean out the vents, look for and remove any dust build-up, and check that all fans are working.

@frankbell just a question, no disrepect.
If system drops to login screen from remote connection do you think that it's possibly network connection dropping then reconnecting, as there are 2 types of login screens. For instance the login after boot & login after logout(which would probably happen after reconnect).

Sounds a little like it could be bad ram. Do you dual/multi boot? If so do the other OSs on this machine also have problems? I would probably try booting into memtest (eg install package memtest86+) and run if for a few hours.

Maybe the OOM (out of memory) killer is killing your apps when you run out of memory and swap.

Have you tried VNC for remote work?

Ye, ive tried VNC, RDP its nice but not exactly what im looking for. Lets say you would have to drop user and possibly make him lose everything unsaved to login through RDP. Oh yea, i dont multiboot. Used autopartitioning installing this distro .. auto-thingy couldve done smthg wrong ? Though swap is 3.1Gb which is pretty enough, if im correct max is 4096. Only time i did care about swap partition size is installing gentoo through minimal, having to wget and tar alot of stuff.

Ok memtest shown no mistakes whatsoever, all modules together and one by one. They were kinda same, same speed, same type, same amount of memory but still seem to conflict somehow. Using only one so far (several hours, that was 5times enough previously for several crashes) makes the system work fine. Thank you all again.

I certainly do think it's possible.

I was attracted (distracted?) by the power off.

When hardware problems can be easily ruled out with a simple test, I do have a tendency to test for them before I start pounding on a keyboard for hours (grin). It sometimes leads me astray.
