website slow

Hi

I have hosted a website on a server with configuration
cpu: xeon processor
ram:6GB

the os is centos 5.4
kernel version is 2.6.18

During Peak hours the server load is 0.9
the problem i am facing is that the site takes time to load.

For this i optimised to mysql database and checked the server load on the database server which again was also normal.

I also used third party scripts to tune the mysql like mysqltuning.pl

next I tuned the apache server using httpd.conf
these are my settings which i tuned

<IfModule prefork.c>
StartServers 40
MinSpareServers 10
MaxSpareServers 75
ServerLimit 1000
MaxClients 950
MaxRequestsPerChild 1000
</IfModule>

In doing so the time reduced , earlier it was taking 40 sec to load , now its about 20 - 25 sec

the website is based on php, php accelerator is turned off since we were facing problems in page loading.

Can someone help me in setting this right , we get around 45000 hits per minute.

how can i resolve this issue , I am running out of options

Thanks in advance

This is definitely not a newbie question. You should try to post it in the Server forum instead.

I can give only little advice:
check if the server is paging using "top"
check how much disk IO the system is doing using iotop

Narrow down your question, right now it is very broad. "gage takes 40 second to load, have reduced it to 25, what more can I do ..."

Good luck, it's a tough problem ...
