Webpage - Shell script integration

Hi All,
I have the following requirement. Just wanted to know, what are the tools required to achieve this:

1. Create a Webpage.
2. Users select options from 2-3 dropdown menus and hit the submit button.
3. Depending on what inputs are chosen from the dropdown, a particular shell script on a linux box is called and executed.
Once complete, depending on success or failure - display the result on the webpage.

I'm a beginner on the web-development front and need your inputs as to what tools I need to install and learn and also the integration flow between the various components.

Do let me know if the information is vague or you need more details.

Thanks!

This is actually pretty straight forward. You'll need apache configured with CGI. From here, I'm going to pass you over to a thread that addresses the rest of the steps.

Additionally, a little information about setting the shell script up to do what you want it to do.

I'm going to offer this advice but it may not be the most efficient way to do it...configure your apache server with PHP and execute the script based on the selection chosen by the user. You may be able to execute it directly from the form with simple HTML but I am unsure how (and I also doubt its possible).
