I'm using my linux box, with Red Hat, to host my personal website and email. While logging into the web mail through out the day, I've noticed that it's "locking up", becoming unresponsive and timing out. It doesnt' display web pages while in this state. Later, it will be fine.
It's something that's started over the last month, after working flawlessly for a year and half.
I cannot check it now, I'll have to diagnose the problem when I get home.
What logs or tools would you suggest I run or read, to help me find what's causing it to time out?
How do I find out what's causing it to be busy? Am I being hacked? Is there a cache or log file I need to empty?

How reliable is your ISP? A timeout just means that somebody, somewhere, didn't respond. Could be your computer, your router if you have one, or something else in the network totally out of your control.

When it's dead, can you ping your computer? ssh into it? Try a traceroute and see how far you're getting. Do you run CPU killing cronjobs on your computer - something that might kill the responsiveness of the box at certain times of day?
