Okay,I will like to know which web browser for Linux is great in surfing the web and has cookies and Java on it. Thank You!:newbie:

I would recommend Opera. It's a great browser, and now as Opera 6 is released (beta) it finally have full support for Java.
Check it out at www.opera.com Hommi |
Also Galeon is pretty nice. It works quick and I like being able to Tab Browse instead of opening a load of windows. But really, any that come stock with a distro and Opera also have java compatibility/capability, well aside from Lynx/Links perhaps.

Try Netscape 6. It has decent font too. And supports java.

My opinion
I prefer Opera against Netscape as Opera has all necessary functions, implements the greatest number of html and css standards (well, OK html authors should also do that), handles e-mail accounts, chat, and yet nicer, smaller and faster.
I found Netscape (even 4.72) too robust and slow. |
Konqueror (comes with Mandrake/KDE) is quite good if you're not going to be surfing lots of web-pages at the same time. It seems to suffer from Explorers problem - if one webpage causes it's instance of Konqueror to fail, then all open Konquerors also fail.

Short answer, for GNOME I use Galeon, it's full featured, fonts are good (hey it uses gecko -the mozilla engine- ) and fast.
For Kde I would use Mozilla, or Opera, or Konqueror... |
Opera Tech Preview 3 seems to be VERY unstable when used with Truetype fonts and QT_XFT=1 exported.
I don't know if the problem is with using truetype fonts, but Opera TP3 crashes every day for. |
Mozilla gets the job done most of the time. Konquerer is good for browsing FTP sites becuase you can drag and drop.
