watching movie + subtitles in KDE/Mandriva 2006?
 

Which program support that? and how can I do that?

I got the srt/sub/... subtitle file + avi movie.

I'm not really-really sure, but vlc and totem works for my .mkv file (which is a composite containing 0+ video tracks, 0+ audio tracks, and some subtitle info).

Uhmm... okay. What do you want to know?

I keep getting angry replies whenever I do the following, but I'm gonna' do it anyways:

Read `Smart Questions' by ESR (Google will help you find it). I don't say this to rub in your face that your question is not smart (although I think that is the case). I do it so that you can ask better questions, and so that I can then provide you with what you want, spending less time on both sides in the process.

Then again, I'll try to be somewhat more explaining: I run, say, totem, go through the `open file' routine, it plays back my file showing the subtitles it can find.

The above does explain something, but probably not what you wanted explained--so there you see the benefit of asking more specific questions.

I personally use mplayer as my media player of choice, and though I have never played seperate files like subtitles and video together, at least according to the website, it is possible. As for how to do it, check mplayerhq and read around.

I did try to install vlc etc , it's not like I said here's my IP, my user, my pass, install it via ssh!

Anyways, I will check it out, and reply soon.

EDITED : Okay, it's working! but I see Jibrish which means I need to edit the font!
How can I do that? (using totem!), well I tried all the menus, found nothing. Other option maybe?

Edit -> Preferences -> the "subtitles" section -> click on the box w. the font name/size.

And to be pedantic, you're not editing the font, you're selecting a different one, or, depending on your viewpoint, editing your font selection. Just FYI.

Also, bumping is considered slightly impolite in most forums (here too)--it'd be horrible if everyone did it, so (by the rule of kantian ethics) it's wrong for anyone to do it.

I did succeded with Kaffeine, not with TOTEM, but who cares!

now, when I change the Encoding from ISO-8859-1 to UTF-8 or Windows-1255 or ISO-8859-8 nothing happens!

Maybe because i'm not writing it good enough? :S it's not a box where you can choose, you have to write which encoding you want to use, so what am I doing wrong? Anyone else succeded?

Is there a way to change it in Xine, maybe in more cofortable way? :S

First you wanted a solution specific to totem, now you're open to alternatives. Please state clearly what it is you absolutely must have, and what you'd like.

Also, I'm not getting how your version of totem looks, and in which menus you're crawling around. Please post a reference to a series of screenshots.

It doesn't matter if it's TOTEM or Kaffeine!

I prefer it to be kaffeine, but I also prefer it to be working!
In Totem I havn't seen a "subtitle font" /etc in every menu!
