Wasn't expecting the speed!( also need help with installing games)

Wow.All I can say is Wow.Everything loads almost 50% faster, webpages , openoffice, other programs, I wasn't expecting that.My yahoo mail loads instantly.Yesterday, I couldn't get online for some strange reason, yet here I am today...heh.

I just got Ubuntu 6.10, and was ( still am a bit) scared.I wanted a clean break from windows, and didn't know how it would go.

Installed it on a 40 gb master and a 80 gb slave.no windows at all now.And me likey.

A few problems, though.( bear with me, a complete linux noob, but not a computer noob)

I used to attempt to develop 3d games on windows, and have abandoned 2 paid-for indie engines to make this clean break, due to a future problem for us indies that wanted to develop for windows vista....namely, the esrb ratings thing that windows vista games will require.

I know of crystal space......blender .....wings3d ...any other 3d engines/programs out there?

And just how do i get a c++ compiler?

Anyways, thanks for any replies, and I am open source for good now.

I will never be the best to advice about programming, just wil name you: Irrlicht, G3D, OberData, L3D (looks pretty dead anyway), some people likes Ogre (not my preferred license), and K-3D for modeling.

Code:

sudo apt-get install build-essential
That will give you gcc. anjuta is a GNOME development IDE for C/C++. kdevelop uses KDE libs.
