Warning on Debian Install - should I be installing 64 bit version?

I got a message on the Debian installer:

"Your computer is capable of running modern, 64-bit operating systems. However, the version of Debian you're trying to install is designed to run on older 32-bit hardware."

What I have is Pentium Dual CPU T2370 and the system type (under properties of "my computer") is 32-bit Operating System.

Is this machine really capable of running the 64-bit version and is would you recommend that I get a 64-bit Debian install instead?

Thanks,
Thor

Intel 64 = yes.

As for whether you should 64-bit: Do you have more than 3 GB RAM? Do you do image or video editing? Do you do Matlab/Mathematica/the like? Would you like to be a little faster at the expense of using a little more RAM? If you answered yes to any of those, yes, you should go 64-bit.

Google "Pentium T2370", then you'll find.

Thank you AlucardZero for the help. I don't think the abuse is necessary, but thanks anyway.

My machine only has 2 Gig Ram, so I'll probably go with the i386 version.

Also, thank you mahu mahu. That did get me right to the specs for the cpu. I was going at it the wrong way, trying to find out from the explanation of EM64T capability and looking for a list of cpu's from there.

Hi thorgamma,

I wonder, is it possible that you have mistaken AlucardZero's signature, for abuse? I see no abuse at all in the above posts. For your reference, the signature block contains the following:
Code:

Eternity is wasted upon the likes of you.

It's just a signature - not directed at you.

Hope I'm not missing something else here. :)

Cheers all!

That's not the first time my signature has been mistaken for part of my post. Perhaps I should set it off more.

Thanks all again. GrapefruiTgirl, you are completely right. I thought I was being cursed at, but see now it was probably an obscure quote that I'll go look up and learn about.
