Wanting to test out OCFS2 within VMware community Server editions.

Hi All,
Just wondered if this is possible, i don't require help setting up the OCFS2 (not yet at least). But i know it requires shared storage available to be able to work, can i imitate shared storage if i run two vm's on the same server and some how (don't know this either), present both vm's a small amount of partition space from a partition careted outside the vm (i know its possible to present VM's a partition from local server or i thought so). My thinking is that to the server running in the vm it will look like some kind of SAN attached storage, if that is the case then without using any attached storage i could test out OCFS2 within VM's? Has anyone perhaps done this before, or seen a website to link to perhaps?

Doing this on SLES10 installed on VMware servers and main server is not so up to date. Its a 1.X version of vmware server not sure if it was possible at any-point in the 1.x tree of vmware or if its even possible?

Cheers,
MJ

Hi,

Oracle by itself provides information on testing Oracle Real Application Cluster using Firewire disks as shared storage. Therefor the also provide drivers and setup information on Linux. There you should be able to test your OCFS.

But i'm not sure if this will work in a vmware session. You should check if vmware provides firewire hardware inside vm.
