Wanted capture device for VCR device with Audio and Video outs only

I have a older Sony 8 mm Video recorder with only audio and video out connections - in Windows I've tried using a ADS instant DVD box that converts signal to USB but it doesn't appear to work for Linux.

Is there a recommended card I could add to my computer?

Also the 8mm tapes I have are 120 minutes and if data is streamed from the disk I think after a hour the file simply exceeds the max size of an ext3 or ntfs file system.

Solutions?

Thanks, Ken

I just use a WinTV card and capture with vlc, mencoder or the alike. Works for me.

Thanks, any particular one that suggests it works with Linux? Also any thoughts on using a video surveillance card to do it? Just a thought that they seem to include H.264 compression. would that help or hinder using VLC or Mencoder (never heard of them but will look them up)

I'm not sure of the resolution capabilities of them but after getting these copied video surveillance use might be interesting.
