Want to set up a box for public use in a cafe. Need to control the usage.
I DID look for similar threads, and there are some, but they are all very old, and none deal exactly with what I want to do.
I'm so new here that I don't know if this is the right place to ask for help or not, so if it isn't please don't scold me....just point me to the right place if you will. I have recently started dusting off old desktop computers I have laying around, and installing Linux Mint 14 Mate on them. They work so well, I asked a friend who has a truck stop/diner with WiFi if she would like for me to set one of these boxes up for public use for patrons who don't have a laptop. She liked the idea, but wants to be sure "bad sites" cannot be accessed. (understandably). If I could find something like the paid version of Webconverger or Net Nanny that I could get for free, I think I could figure out how to do what we want to do. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |
forget software,.. just set up a FREE account here: http://www.opendns.com/business-solu...-dns/benefits/ and point the computer at it.
It will filter all the bad stuff out for you. I use it for the kids. Btw: You'll want to set the computer up in a kiosk-like mode so people cant install crazy stuff or whatever. |
