Question want some help with sendmail.mc and smb.conf

Hi,

While I was going through the configuration file of sendmail i.e. sendmail.mc

I was a little surprised to see the format of the file

So, can anyone please explain me which is the commented and uncommented line in this file

for eg.

Code:
dnl define(`confAUTO_REBUILD')dnl

define(`confDONT_PROBE_INTERFACES', `True')dnl
What is the use of dnl??
Why is it used at the end of the line?

*******************************************************************

Another query is for the smb.conf file

what is the use of giving ; in the starting of line?

for eg:

Code:
; hosts allow = 192.168.1. 192.168.2. 127.
*******************************************************************

Please can anyone clear my doubts

dnl is a m4 command meaning "Delete through New Line".
You can use it for comments or to avoid the insertion of blank lines, so the "define" command will produce a blank line.
The second situation is used because m4 replaces its commands with empty lines.

for smb.conf ; means a commented line.
