Want FileZilla access to newly created VPS account with PureFTPd

I have a newly created unmanaged BurstNET VPS account. The VPS is vePortal. My OS is CentOS 5.5. It appears that PureFTPd was installed on the VPS. If I enter 'ftp localhost' from the command line, I get a PureFTPd login prompt. The problem is that I need to be able to access my VPS' FTP from FileZilla on my laptop. But I don't know what user/password to use. Does PureFTPd have a default user/password for new installations? Does anyone know what these are? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have been searching for answers for 2 days. Thanks!

Hi JazzcatCB,

Is pureFTPd set up to use unix authentication? If it is, you might have to create a normal user on the system, and try logging in with those credentials.

Thanks for your reply Bfresh.

I should start out by letting you know that I am a complete Linux newbie. I have no knowledge of the OS.

Having said that, how would I determine if pureFTPd is set up to use unix authentication?

Can you help me with the procedure to create a normal user?

Thanks!
