Want a distro for slimserver and NAS

So I have this old box (Athlon 1800 1.something GHz, 128 MB RAM)that is running FreeNAS. That's nice and it works great but I want to use that box to run NAS as well as Slimserver so I can serve to the squeezebox that I intend to buy--if I can get this to work. Anyway, I planned on dumping FreeNAS and trying to install linux onto this 32 MB compact flash card to minimize heat and noise in the case. I won't need any GUI because I hope to be able to access their GUI's over the network. My question is, what distro should I choose for this? I'm pretty noobish. I have some experience with Debian and Ubuntu but the prospect of building my own kernel (or whatever it takes to make your own) scares the hell out of me. Any suggestions?
