Wacom Penpartner and Gimp
 

I run the Gimp on SuSE 8.0 and have been trying to configure a Wacom Penpartner with no success. The Gimp Handbook suggests editing /etc/X11/XF86Config but that file has a message not to edit it. I therefore edited /etc/XF86Config ("Files" and "Module" sections and added a "Xinput" section.
I then tried to empower the pen by entering the command "xsetpointer Wacom" and got
Xlib: connection to "0.0" refused by server
Xlib: no protocol specified

I am well out of my depth by this time. Any advice on how to proceed or on what I have done wrong will be much appreciated.

haven't got any knowledge of wacom graphic tablets
either, but searching in suse's supportdatabase i saw these;

maybe you can extract your solution from there.
Note; searching in english in the database provided no
answers, in german; the above links showed up, luckily
in english.
