VNC Cannot connect

Hi,

I am running a new installation of RHEL 5.3 and cannot get VNC client to connect to server. I have enabled VNC server, set password, disabled firewall, but client does not get a response from server.

Server error log shows:

Xvnc Free Edition 4.1.2
Copyright (C) 2002-2005 RealVNC Ltd.
See http://www.realvnc.com for information on VNC.
Underlying X server release 70101000, The X.Org Foundation

vncext: VNC extension running!
vncext: Listening for VNC connections on port 5902
vncext: Listening for HTTP connections on port 5802
vncext: created VNC server for screen 0
xrdb: No such file or directory
xrdb: can't open file '/root/.Xresources'

I am trying to connect with TightVNC client using ipaddr:2. So it seems that server is listening for connections, but there is a problem with X? Since this is a new install, is it possible that I have not enabled something with X? Can someone offer further troubleshooting advice?

Thanks,

Ken

Have you tried running it as a non-root user?

What is the output if you try ipaddr:1?

Yes, I just tried running as another user and logging in with :1. Log file is similar but ports change as appropriate to new user. I also notice log does not add entries each time a login fails - seems that logon attempt is not recorded by the file, perhaps it is not getting that far. (Double checked that Firewall is disabled.)

I notice there is no .Xresources file in the home dir. Should I create one and what would be in it?
