VMware Install Error

I tried installing vmware, and it was unsuccesful. I've tried since then, and I keep getting this error message after a "successful" install:
Before running VMware Workstation for the first time, you need to configure it
by invoking the following command: "/usr/bin/". Do you want this
program to invoke the command for you now? [yes]

Making sure VMware Workstation's services are stopped.

sh: line 1: /etc/vmware: is a directory
Unable to stop VMware Workstation's services.

Execution aborted.
I've tried /usr/bin/ and redownloading and reinstalling, nothing works. Tips?

manually stop all the vmware services before running the
they scripts should be in /etc/rc.d/initd or something like that
depending on your distrobution.
to stop the vmware services go into the initd folder and type
the name of the vmware service (ls to get a list) stop
ie vmware stop
then run the file
