VMWare 2.0.4 and RH 7.1 install

When I install RH 7.1 under VMWare 2.0.4g, I cannot get past the line "running /sbin/loader".

I put the line "cdrom.synchronous=TRUE" in the config file, but that does not improve the situation.

Any clues? I use a Toshiba Tecra 8100 laptop, if that helps in any way.

I disabled sound from the config editor. That let it past the sbin/loader line. Then, I reset the VM, changed the config file to include sound, and this time when I booted, it did go past the sbin/loader line. The problem is that sound does not run in the VM, as sndconfig fails to run the Soundblaster driver.
