VLC Subtitle

Hi,

I tried to view an avi file with .srt subtitle with VLC on Fedora Core 3, but the subtitle didn't show up. I tried exactly the same procedure in Windows with DirectVobSub installed and it worked.

Do I need to install a similar filter to play the subtitle in Linux?

Thanks!

Will

Here is what I had to do (using version 0.7.2).

Open
->Open File (not "Quick Open File")

check the box that says "Subtitle options"
Click the button next to it that says "Settings..."
Where it says "Subtitles file" click the "Browse" button and select the file you need.

Then open the file, and go to:
Subtitles Track
->Track 1 (or whickever track you want if you have more than one)

I know it works with idx files, but I don't have a srt file to test it myself.

Thanks for the reply.

I tried it, but there's still no subtitle.
I deleted VobSub in Windows and the subtitles still display correctly in VLC, I guess VLC has its own filters.
By the way, I'm using version 0.8.1 on both Linux and Windows.
I also tried a .sub file and it worked in both Linux and Windows, and other .srt files don't work neither.

Could it be a bug?

Thanks!

Will

Quite probable. Subtitle files like srt seem to be a common problem, based on what I can see on the VLC forum. No solution seems to be immediately available (other than trying a different media player).

Thanks! I'll give xine and mplayer a try.
