vlc player not working in ubuntu
 

my problem is that i have installed vlc player and all its packages from synaptic manager and when i right click on any song or movie it shows option of "open with vlc" .......but when i click on it nothing happens even vlc does not open at all ...........

Run VLC from a terminal and post all of the output on here.
