I am trying to copy the audio from some videos on youtube

i start vlc from the menu Applications/Sound & Video/VLC media player

with some youtube vifdeos it works
with some it fails

when it fails it hangs the system - no way to stop except by the power switch

when I look at /var/log/messages I find the following
Code:
Feb 5 16:38:25 localhost abrt[3330]: saved core dump of pid 3308 (/usr/bin/vlc) to /var/spool/abrt/ccpp-1296952704-3308.new/coredump (77025280 bytes)

Feb 5 16:38:26 localhost abrtd: Corrupted or bad crash /var/spool/abrt/ccpp-1296952704-3308 (res:5), deleting
a video it hangs on is
Code:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MF_aAN63zv0
i have the latest copy
Code:

Installed Packages
vlc.i686 1.1.5-1.fc14 @rpmfusion-free-updates
[knox@localhost ~]$ ^C

[knox@localhost ~]$ sudo yum list kernel
Loaded plugins: langpacks, presto, refresh-packagekit
Adding en_US to language list
Installed Packages
kernel.i686 2.6.35.6-45.fc14 @fedora/$releasever
kernel.i686 2.6.35.10-74.fc14 @updates

Any suggestions?

POSTSCRIPT
I failed to give some details
Once in VLC I select Media / Convert/Save
Network tab
I enter the url - see above
next page
a file name e.g. mama.mp3
select MP3 from the drop down
start

it domes back and shows the name of the web site - but either hangs or dies - one or the other randomly

CURIOUSER AND CURIOUSER
I have 2 Fedora14 systems - keep both up to date daily with YUM
The problem reported above is the newer system - a 2 year old Intel Pentium
I just tried it on the 10 year old AMD athlon - works fine ??

As I understand it, that the same kernel loads differently depending on the hardware.

years ago i gave up on vlc for everyday web videos
vlc IS great for dvd 's from the store

that YouTube vid you posted runs - with sound- just fine in ff with the mplayer plugin and the Current 2010 ALL mplayer codec package ( NOT THE 2007 one)

the YouTube format IS flash
sound - lavfpref
video - ffh264
