VLC can't recognize the input's format:
 

Hi Everybody,
I have "ubuntu-9.04 jaunty" on my system and i have install vlc by using command "apt-get install vlc" hence vlc-0.9.9a got installed onto my system. I have "antartica.avi" file on my desktop but im unable to play it by using vlc i.e. whenever i add my .avi file to the vlc player and say play then the screen goes off. When i want to play it by using command "vlc ./Desktop/antartica.avi -V x11" then im able to play it locally.
If i want to stream it through vlc media player to another system( these systems are connected to the same LAN) then what things i will have to do ? I have found one command from the net but its not working. Its giving error as---"VLC can't recognize the input's format"
# vlc -vvv ./home/ravirenu/Desktop/antartica.avi --sout udp:edcn27.cedtv4.iisc.ernet.in --ttl 12
