Virus malware firewall in linux needed or not?
 
I am using linux since 2010.I never cared for viruses.I installed clamtk and firestarter and rkhunter as safety measure.
BVut,I want to know whether antivirus firewall are needed or not?
I know linux can get viruses.What security applications and settings and tips needed?
Which is the best applications for the purpose?



NOTE:I never got any problem relating to virus or malware with current settings.i never scan files for viruses.I use default Firewall options(No manual tweaking).First,Iused Ubuntu 10.04,then Debian 6 currently using Debian 6 and Slackware 14.0

The term "best practices" means that an admin is learning and using as many tools as they can to protect data. The more things that limit exposure, the better. Things like limiting ports may be part of the OS already or may need to be loaded. Using least amount of user rights for each task is another.

If you run your systems as admin, never control access, go to bad sites and such you can expect trouble.

Linux is not secure. Hackers target easy prey so linux distro's have been trying to step up their methods to help the users. You need to do what you can.

I'd never run without a good set of security or disposable OS's.
