Exclamation Virtual terminal not able to see

I Installed RHEL 4 UPDATE 4 WS to the Intel DQ965GF mother board based desktop.

After installation it was not booting. So i added linux pci=nommconf all-generic-ide=1 to the Grub line for adding SATA
parameters to the kernel.

Now, it is booting.but , the problem is none of the Virtuel terminal are visible F1 - F6 .Only X window is visible.

When you do a ps -ef, is getty or mingetty running?
