Virtual PC 2007 & Ubuntu 11.04 Desktop
Hi folks,
I'm just doing this experiment trying to get linux in the road so I install Ubuntu Desktop on Microsoft Virtual PC 2007. The installation went fine. Now how do I get this installation connected to the internet? The trouble I'm getting right now is that the I can't access the Internet when I fire up the browser. Please help! Thanks! |
Microsoft VirtualPC doesn't support Linux guests. I would recommend to install Virtualbox or VMware Player.

Thanks for your swift reply.
I tried to download VMware workstation but the site keeps on asking me to register only and never let me proceed to the download. I'm talking about the vmware website. VirtualBox, where I might find this one? Many thanks!! |

During Ubuntu installation, there is no fuuny graphics glitch. And it connects to the Internet. Thanks for the pointer!! Next thing is that I want to try experiment with Apache. How do I go about it I mean where do I download Apache and what is the best version? |
Linux is not Windows, so you you shouldn't expect that things work like on Windows. In most distributions the developers set up repositories, from there do you install software like Apache. And obviously the best version for you is the version in the repositories for your Ubuntu version. You should have a point like "Add/Remove Software" or something similar in your menu, install Apache with that.

Thanks Tobi!
Ubuntu 11.04 Server comes with LAMP, I figured that out during installation. I'm happy now :) Now I have use Virtual box to install a Windows XP. Thing is both the Ubuntu Server and this XP has the same IP address. How do I set up a "little network" linking the Ubuntu server and the XP client? Thanks in advance. |
All information you need for that is in the Virtualbox Manual.
