Virtual box repo is an html file

I am trying to install virtualbox 5.1 on scientific linux 7 (based on rhel 7) and I am following these instructions: https://www.tecmint.com/install-virt...centos-fedora/

When I get to 'yum update', I get
<<<<<<
Loaded plugins: langpacks

File contains no section headers.
file: file:///etc/yum.repos.d/oldvb.repo, line: 1
'<!DOCTYPE html><html data-adblockkey=MFwwDQYJKoZIhvcNAQEBBQADSwAwSAJBANnylWw2vLY4hUn9w06zQKbhKBfvjFUCsdFlb6TdQhxb9RXWXuI4t31c+ o8fYOv/s8q1LGPga3DE1L/tHU4LENMCAwEAAQ==_qm4u8PiKNP876fYfLBO7qI8a0DwqGxLTCssFS3FP50Y34NceL/yq5CMqSmZXumEtM2RYfpLOWimq1wmSxhXynw==><head><meta charset="utf-8" /><style type="... (the whole file)
>>>>>>

this happens for any yum command I do until I remove the virtualbox.repo (was oldvb.repo in example)

I looked at the repo's there and the virtaulbox one is the only one that looks htmly. Running the wget command just gets me another html like virtaul box repo. Is the repo I am getting wrong, and is there a way to get it better?

you downloaded the wrong file.
just search for a better tutorial and start again.

I did not click and read the link you posted, but if I was installing vbox I would follow the instructions that VirtualBox provides.

https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Linux_Downloads

Use the link at the end of the line that looks like this:
Oracle Linux 7 ("OL7") / Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 ("RHEL7") / CentOS 7 AMD64

and scroll down the page and look for RPM-based Linux distributions.

Good luck.

Thanks, but I had seen that page before and did not know how to do anything with it. What do you do after unpacking the files from the ziped file? Also all of my rpm commands fail with "import read failed(2)" and I don't know where to put the linked text files with the key and the header.

What zip file? You're making this far too complicated...

Just skip to the end of the RPM-based Linux Distributions section to the part that says "Users of Oracle Linux / RHEL can add the Oracle Linux repo file to /etc/yum.repos.d/". Download the linked file (this one), put it in /etc/yum.repos.d/, and then run "yum install VirtualBox-5.1".

Thanks, that worked.
