Vim: terribly used to Backspace for deleting.

Hi: I installed Slack 9.1 in an old machine, and vim (6.2) does not respond to the backspace key. I'm used to strike BS to delete a few chars leftward. And I would like to continuing doing so.

Although I seem to remember this is a difficult matter, I dare ask for a little help.

I remember something like this in Fedora a while back, and if I recall correctly, when I installed all vim packages from the repositories, it worked for me within insert/edit mode. Is that what you are talking about? I know I installed something like vim-???, which I think was a simple mode, or something of that nature.

After slack 12.0 instalation I have no problem with the BS key in insert mode. But installing 9.1, in insert mode, only way to erase is with the Delete key. I hate that. The BS key is that big for some purpose, although in modern spanish keyboards it has been reduced to the size of a lentil.
