Unhappy ViewSonic E71f refresh rate not changing

Hi all,

I'm new to linux. I have Debian version 3.1r0a. Everything is OK with the resolution and the monitor except that in 1024x768 it is only using 60Hz. I want to use 75Hz. How can I do this?

Thank you,
Abolos

Moved: This thread is more suitable in Linux-Newbie and has been moved accordingly to help your thread/question get the exposure it deserves.

Look into /etc/X11/XFree86Config-4, find lines starting with HorizSync and VertRefresh and change them to (values found online, refer your monitor manual to make sure):
Code:
        HorizSync 30-71
        VertRefresh 50-160
With the values it should start in much higher mode.

Thank you Mara. Actually I tried changing only the VertRefresh before, but not the HorizSync. You gave me a good idea. So now it is working.

Many thanks.
