Viewing Windows HDDs in RAID

Hello, the boot sector in my windows installation became corrupted, but I was told that I could get the files out using linux. I have two SATA hdds in RAID 0.

I booted up Ubuntu from the cd, and of course can't see the HDDSs. I've been told that I need something like dmraid to get linux to recognize the RAID set, then I can mount them.

I've never used Linux at all before, so I'm absolutely confused by it. Googling dmraid hasn't helped much at all, and I've been through a dozen threads and how-to's but I'm hitting my face on a brick-wall of jargon.

So, can anyone point me to a really simple guide, or tell me how to get dmraid working? I don't have any idea where to even start, and I've already begun pulling out my hair. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

You'd probably do a lot better trying to boot from your emergency boot disk and taking care of it in Windows. If that fails or if you didn't create one, then try to do a repair install from your Windows install disk. Unfortunately, this isn't the proper forum for getting help restoring a Windows boot sector.

Someone might be able to tell you how to install grub so that you can boot your Windows from grub, but given your level of understanding, it would be a really chancy thing to try. Try to repair it with the Windows tools.

By the way, when you say that you booted up Ubuntu from the CD, do you mean a liveCD, or did you install Ubuntu? If you did an install, your Windows stuff is all gone.
