video stream pink
dear all,
some videos i try to watch thru a web-browser (iceweasel, konqueror or galeon) look like they are scrambled and are coloured pink. most videos work, this phenomen is only with some, f.e. on www.arte.tv. on another computer with the same system (current lenny) i can watch those video (only that this computer is slow and the screen pretty dark). i checked for codecs, i have now tons of them installed on the first system (incl all on the second one (i think)). the only difference between the two systems is, that i installed system(1) a new, whereas i built system(2) up from debian edge. anybody an idea how i can watch those videos? greetings from hoher flaeming, burkie |
Hi Burkie,
I tried your link and I can watch the videos with no problem. I have not watched all of them so unless you tell us exactly which videos give you problems I can't be sure of what it is. Anyway, they look fine on FFx 3.5Preview using the latest Adobe Flash plugin (v.10.0 r22). Can you look at Code:

the videos i actually wanted to watch are already gone:-( but here is another example: http://www.arte.tv/de/Videos-auf-ART...scending=false i apparently had about 5 mplayer plugins intsalled. i threw all off them out, but one. still the above linked video shows a pink garbled screen. now two flash-player plugins are left over, ver 9 and 10 (9 deactivated in iceweasel, 10 activated). when i try to throw out 9 (libswfdec-0.6-90) both synaptic and aptitude want to remove gnome as well. i would do that. and re-install gnome. but, for the sake of ease, is there another way? BTW, is there a way to figure which codec (or plugin) is needed for a certain online video (like gspot, but a sort of online version) greetings, burkie |

Usually FFx is clever enough to know what plugin is required for a given video and a popup will appear asking if you want to download a player for it if you don't already have one. Otherwise you can check the video link and based on the extension you can figure out what player is needed. Regarding libswfdec, you've got the wrong package. There are no FFx plugins included in the libswfdec-0.6-90 package (nor any other plugins for that matter). If you look in Code:
about:plugins So do not remove libswfdec-0.6-90. You will then have to reinstall gnome for nothing and still not have solved your problem. Cheers, jdk |
